Curtis Vs. The Cow

Well it all began with…. Wait scratch that..

I just love food! it didn’t start with some big understanding of culinary arts or anything like that. I just remember growing up in Florida as a small child, and my father, or the neighbors having huge BBQ’s. Not just hamburgers and hot dog’s, I’m talking breaking out the big drum smoker and smoking mullet half the day, or a huge pot of crawfish dumped out on the table for everyone to pick at.

One of my earliest memories was about a cow. My father and his friend Barney had planned on butchering. My father told me, “This will be the best meat you will ever have, and you will never forget this cow.”

Well, later, they brought the meat home and put some in the freezer, and some in the refrigerator to cook the next day. I knew this was going to be awesome! All my dad’s friends were going to come over and it was going to be fun!

Every Saturday morning, I had a ritual, I would get up before anyone else and grab myself a slice of of bologna and head to the TV to watch the Saturday morning cartoons. This morning was no different…

As I walked into the kitchen, I reached the fridge and pulled the door open and reached for that wonderful slice of bologna….. “MOOOOO!” I heard it as loud as can be! I just knew that cow my dad had murdered was coming for me! I tossed that bologna in the air, my 5 years of life flashed before my eyes and started to run out of the kitchen! As I made it around the corner, there was my father, just laughing with his loud, and very unique laugh.

That evening I had the best steaks I have ever had, to this day. I survived the Ghost of the cow, and my father was right. I will never , ever forget that cow!

That was the beginning of my adventures with food. I have had many more adventures as I grew older, that I can’t wait to share.

I hope you enjoy!
